  1. TOPSOIL (i.e. organic soil). In order to stop erosion and to favour renaturalization, TOPOSOIL (i.e. organic soil) that helps vegetation to take root is often used.
  2. Each hectare of slope (trenches or ridges) requires about 5.000 m3 of TOPOSOIL (i.e. organic soil)  that costs 10 to 20 €/m3.
  3. This single component accounts for up to 50.000 – 100.000 € on each hectare of surface to be treated. Further costs are normally to be foreseen for geotextile nets, geonets, mats, geocells and traditional hydroseeding.
  4. On the contrary, PRATI ARMATI® grows on any lithotype, even the most sterile, and does not require any organic soil.

TOPSOIL (i.e. organic soil)

  • is to be collected from areas where it is still available (in Italy it is nearly impossible to find)
  • must be loaded onto trucks and sometimes transported far away to the destination point
  • must be locally unloaded, transported and compacted in situ
  • must be combined with biomats, geonets, or incorporated into geocells (all these operations to be done manually)
  • must be eventually sown

Not only …

… often the results are negative and counterproductive: the topsoil may actually collapse under heavy rain if placed on compact lithotypes with steep slopes.

PRATI ARMATI® Technology,

on the contrary…

  • does not need any organic soil substrate
  • grows on any lithotype, even the most sterile: spoil rocks from tunneling, ridges with added lime, any type of clay, flysch, gravel, lime-sandstones, fissured rocks, etc.
  • does not require any maintenance
  • does not need watering, even in arid soils
  • definitively stops EROSION
  • re-naturalizes the site in a short time, (subtracting up to  400% more CO2 with respect to other grassy plants)
  • is perennial, non-GM, non-weed, mainly autochthonous, sprouts after fire
  • may be planted by mechanical devices, very quickly (even several hectares per day) thus reducing personnel risks

The Constructors of Large Infrastructures (e.g. motorways) have difficulties in finding the required amount of top soil, which moreover is expensive and may have harmful side-effects. PRATI ARMATI® is now a mature and proven technique, used on main Large Infrastructures. PRATI ARMATI® IS THE SOLUTION that will also reduce costs.

TOPSOIL (i.e. organic soil)

MOREOVER TOPSOIL ( i.e.Organic soil) is often non-autochthonous and may contain  seeds, root stocks, weedy plants, parasites, possibly noxious micro-organisms and weeds that, in an environment different from that of its origin, may become very virulent.
