BLACK GEONETS REGREENED AND FLOWERED: On motorway A6 Torino-Savona geonets were installed about 15 years ago. No regreening possible with tradidional techniques.

On motorway A6 Torino-Savona at km 100 geonets were installed, about 15 years ago, to protect slopes from erosion. Slopes were totally bare, and since then they did not develop any kind of vegetation. In 2011, the technicians of the Motorway decided to test Prati Armati® with the aim to try to re-green the most critical slope. After a few months from sowing, the soil is now remarkably covered by green and flowers, completely masking the rockfall protection kits and black geonets that for years have negatively characterized the highway.

DRAPERY SYSTEMS ON SICILY MOTORWAY: RENATURATION IN COMBINATION WITH DRAPERY SYSTEM

<strong>DRAPERY SYSTEMS</strong>: Miracle in Sicily: Catania-Siracusa motorway bank of about 35m high 300m long with slope of about 45°, consisting of alternating siltstones, slightly cemented sandy limestones and conglomerates.

<strong>DRAPERY SYSTEMS</strong>. Rockfall protection netting may retain falling boulders, but are ineffective against the erosion of the finest materials whose continual removal by rain, wind, snow and freeze-thaw, degrades the supporting base of larger dimension stones that break away and fall downhill swelling out/expanding the net.

MAINTENANCE ZEROED: MOTORWAY A1 MILANO-NAPOLI regreened and flowered after 20 years of unsuccessful efforts with traditional techniques.

Only 6 months after PRATI ARMATI® installation the site was renaturized and the erosion was stopped: results never reached in tens of years of previous efforts.
