EROSION: a great problem not easy to solve without PRATI ARMATI technology

EROSION: a great problem not easy to solve without PRATI ARMATI technology

Erosion is the process by which soil and rock are removed from the Earth’s surface by exogenetic processes such as wind or water flow, and then transported and deposited in other locations.

While erosion is a natural process, human activities have increased by 10-40 times the rate at which erosion is occurring globally.

Excessive erosion causes problems such as desertification, decreases in agricultural productivity due to land degradation, sedimentation of waterways, and ecological collapse due to loss of the nutrient rich upper soil layers.

Water and wind erosion are now the two primary causes of land degradation; combined, they are responsible for 84% of degraded acreage, making excessive erosion one of the most significant global environmental problems.[1][2]

Industrial agriculturedeforestationroads, anthropogenic climate change andurban sprawl are amongst the most significant human activities in regard to their effect on stimulating erosion.[3] However, there are many prevention and remediation practices that can curtail or limit erosion of denuded soils

PRATI ARMATI is the best solution against EROSION and DESERTIFICATION

This is a guaranteed full service, based on seeds of herbaceous perennial deep rooting plants capable to grow on almost any lithotype and climate, contrasting EROSION even on most barren ground types, re-naturalizing slopes, favouring biodiversity and accelerating ecological succession, protecting civil infrastructure and restoring polluted areas.

Where you can use PRATI ARMATI®

  • ridges and banks of motorways, roads and railways;
  • shores of lakes, rivers, torrents and channels;
  • seashores;
  • quarries, mines, landfill sites and contaminated lands.

The planting process

The PRATI ARMATI®  planting process depends on the specific site. It can be done seeding by hand, mechanical or hydraulic systems and depends on the local characteristics. The sowing process consists of spreading a mixture of water, fertilizers, natural glues and PRATI ARMATI®  technical seeds on the slope, using spreading pump mounted on a truck or  Caterpillartracked . In very large surfaces or inaccessible areas the hydroseeding can be done by helicopter using a specific hydraulic diffuser.

Erosion control is the practice of preventing or controlling wind or water erosion in agricultureland development and construction. Effective erosion controls are important techniques in preventing water pollution and soil loss.

Erosion controls are used in natural areas, agricultural settings or urban environments. In urban areas erosion controls are often part of stormwater runoff management programs required by local governments.

The controls often involve the creation of a physical barrier, such as vegetation or rock, to absorb some of the energy of the wind or water that is causing the erosion. On construction sites they are often implemented in conjunction with sediment controls such as sediment basins and silt fences.Bank erosion is a natural process: without it, rivers would not meander and change course.

However, land management patterns that change the hydrograph and/or vegetation cover can act to increase or decrease channel migration rates. In many places, whether or not the banks are unstable due to human activities, people try to keep a river in a single place.This can be done for environmental reclamation or to prevent a river from changing course into land that is being used by people. One way that this is done is by placing riprap or gabions along the bank

One Response to “EROSION”

  • What PRATI ARMATI® can do

    • stop erosion and desertification. The seeds grow on every sterile lithotype (compact clay, altered or fractured rocks, soils polluted by hydrocarbons and heavy metals, even in concentrations 10 times above the legally permitted limits, lime added soils up to 5% in weight) without topsoil, plastic and natural materials (geo-grids, geotextile meshes, natural fibre nets, mulch, bonded wood-fibre matrices, and so on);
    • if the above materials are already on-site, they can hide them, increasing their performances and landscape benefits;
    • mitigate the environmental impact of conventional civil works;
    mutual and synergic protection of conventional civil infrastructure, reducing maintenance works;
    • accelerate the re-naturalization process;
    • subtracts up to 400% more CO2 than traditional plants, according to Kyoto Protocol;
    • increase soil shear resistance and safety factor;
    • protect and waterproof the slope in case of heavy rainfall event;
    • protect from fractures and rifting;
    • reduce soil saturation;
    • thrive even in soils polluted with high levels of heavy metals: Lead, chrome, zinc, nickel, copper, mercury, cadmium, arsenic, cobalt, antimony, selenium, and so on;
    • isolate polluting soils. Prevents the dispersion of polluting dusts via water and wind (transportation in suspension, via infiltration and wind-borne deflation).
